We all have hopes and aspirations. Most of us give them a go at some time. But the upward funnel of those who actually get to see their dreams land grows smaller and smaller the further along the challenging roads you get.
I understand why so many people die with regrets, why some people talk themselves out of their dreams for the safety of comfort, without realising the anguish and heartache they are setting themselves up for later.
Going for your dreams is painful stuff!
Believe me, I understand. I almost quit on one of my biggest dreams, one that is currently in the process of landing. I’m so glad I dared to let go for a while but then trusted when life gently nudged me to keep going. So I took a very deep breath and did just that: kept going. Now I find myself smiling at the most random times, like a child about to receive the best Christmas present ever.
Truly going for your dreams asks a lot of you.
It means releasing your deepest, most primal fears, healing trauma, realising your worth, living through unknown territory and experiences, dealing with the best and worst of humanity, getting out of your own way repeatedly so life can help, discovering aspects of yourself that may surprise you in either fabulous or awful ways, deepening your faith so you can let go on the days you need to, and learning how to receive with an open, trusting heart.
That’s a lot! And it’s all due to some yearning that only your heart understands!
If we don’t have dreams or hope, though, what is there to pull us forward?
There is the beauty of the present moment, where all the magic really happens. It’s just a pity that none of us can stay in that 100% of the time. The human mind wanders off on its little tangent regularly, even for long-term meditators.
This is a part of being a perfectly imperfect human.
Without the struggles the mind creates and the resilience to master them, we would never grow or know our potential. This sway from faith to fear, strength to trepidation, conviction to wanting to quit, is all a part of the human experience.
It is for that reason we need to have compassion for ourselves, for our humanness.
But … we also need to recognise that we are more capable than we often give ourselves credit for.
When we do that, we eventually get to live the dream.
A quote I’ve shared before, since it’s one of those I live by is:
Dreams come a size too big so we can grow into them.

I believe I finally fit my dream!
I’m taking the rest of July off to let it land fully and to enjoy the feeling of achievement. But it’s not an achievement that has to do with anyone else or has any relevance to comparison. It is the things I’ve grown through to get to this point that I want to recognise and enjoy. I’ll be letting it all soak in with space and gratitude, breathing in the fresh air on my wild acreage and waking to the birdsong. I’ll enjoy being home … at last.
I will return to you here in August sometime.
Going for dreams, whether huge or tiny, will stretch you. Without a doubt. That’s why they’re dreams.
They’re a whispering of the heart … and that whisper is love.
We can only know our potential if we dare to be stretched.
I wish you the courage to trust in that stretch.
With love,
Bronnie.
