It’s easy to pin all your hopes on winning the lottery. After all, someone usually wins it.
My father did when I was younger. We were a poor family, knocked over by repeated floods on our small farm. The win meant we could buy the farm we were renting after that, with very little change left over in my father’s pocket. (The house was crumbling and infested with rats and possums. It wasn’t the glamour you imagine when you win the lotto!) Any money left over after buying the farm only just carried us through the shocking drought of the 1980’s. We certainly didn’t become millionaires. The original win wasn’t anywhere near that to start with. But it saved a father for a while who was just trying to feed his kids.
Even if you haven’t won the lottery though, it’s easy to wish for a quick fix when things get tough.
You may indeed end up being the 1 in almost 135 million of a chance who does actually win the lotto, but you have more chance of creating change through the 134.99 million other ways. Much more chance!
A quote often attributed to Einstein is:
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
It’s easy to keep believing in a different outcome from the comfort of familiarity, but very little lasting change ever comes from that.
The change has to come from within yourself first. You have to face the fear of whatever you know deep-down is calling.
It means risk and potential stumbling.
It means being uncomfortable, often in front of others since there are witnesses to your life, whether as loved ones or strangers.
It means being braver than you sometimes know you are.
But if you want change, it’s up to you.
You have to push through that ease of what you already know and can do, and let yourself be scared.
Discover what’s on the other side of that.
I’ve found usually it’s a lighter heart that has been blessed with surprising rewards for my courage.
It doesn’t mean that through the process, I haven’t had to face some primal fears that have lingered too long. But of one thing I am sure: courage is rewarded.
Don’t wait to win the lotto. Time is too precious for that. Initiate the change your heart is calling for.
With love,
Bronnie.
PS. This month’s vlog is called Planting the Future Through Heatwaves and Hope. It took weeks for my new zoom lens to arrive, which was then too heavy for my tripod. So, then it was weeks until a new one of those arrived … but my life has now been changed forever! When you watch the little joey bounce around its sweet, patient wallaby mum, you’ll understand what I’m talking about. You can watch it here on my website or on my YouTube channel.
